India beat Pakistan to win Blind Cricket T20 World Cup

BANGALORE: India on Thursday triumphed in the inaugural Blind Cricket Twenty20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan by 29 runs in the title clash.

After Ketan Bhai Patel guided India to 258 with a hurricane knock of 98, the hosts restricted the visitors to 229 for nine in the allotted 20 overs.

Batting first, Prakash Jayaramaiah made useful 42 while vice-captain Ajay Kumar Reddy contributed 25, helping India to post a competitive total.

For Pakistan, Mohammed Jameel scored a quickfire 47, Ali Murthaza struck 38 while Mohammed Akram helped himself to 32 runs.

Having won eight matches on the trot in the group stage, Pakistan could not maintain the winning streak when it mattered most.

India had only lost to Pakistan in the group stage and thrashed Sri Lanka in the semi-final.

Pakistan had spanked England by nine wickets in the semi-finals.

The victory is India's first in a World Cup final after they lost to Pakistan in 2006.

Emergence of The group (History)

The foundation of this group was laid down by Shri Y.P. Mahindru in 1939 at Lahore when he set up the first laundry soap manufacturing plant. Undeterred by the uncertainties and pangs of partition the family migrated and finally settled in Gurgaon, where he resumed his operations of manufacturing laundry soaps in 1950.

Mr. Ashok Mahindru joined business and because of his scientific temper and deep insights in molecular chemistry laid emphasis on R&D in soap and surfactant manufacturing. Through these efforts the group was the first in India to produce LABSA with 90% active matter through the indigenous technology in 1983 and still maintains an edge in that area. Mr. Ashok Mahindru provided the leadership needed to commission manufacturing facilities at Silvassa, Pithampur, Mangalore, Pondicherry, Kolkatta and Roorkee on one hand and registered numerous patents under his hold on the other.

Pondicherry unit commissioned in 1995 with 40,000 TPA Capacity was the largest single unit in India at that time. It was followed by Pithampur Unit in 1997 and Silvassa unit in 1999 with production capacity of 66000 MT/PA with distinction of employing "Gas Sulphonation" route using 95% concentrated SO3. This was followed by Kolkatta & Roorkee Plants set up in year 2009 and 2010 respectively.
